Prof. Claire Gormley (Insight@UCD; Analytics – PI; female; FWCI – 1.39) is a methodological statistician with an applied focus developing specialised statistical models and inferential methods necessary for the analysis of motivating diverse and complex data that arise in a wide range of applied fields e.g., genomics, metabolomics and social science. Claire was the first female full professor in statistics appointed in Ireland during her time at VistaMilk. Claire is a principal investigator in the Insight Research Ireland Centre and funded investigator in the Iform Research Ireland Centre. Claire’s research interests include latent variable models for high-dimensional data, mixture models, mixed-data models, rank data models, computational statistics and Bayesian statistics. Claire was elected as a member of the Board of Directors of the International Society for Bayesian Analysis (2023-2025) as well as being an elected member of Council of the Royal Statistical Society 2017-2020. Examples of impact include:

• Claire has published 7 open-source R software packages which have been downloaded 298K+ times since 2006 in 135+ countries.
• Co-director of the Research Ireland Centre for Research Training in Foundations of Data Science. This is a large-scale, cohort-based doctoral research training programme, that will train 128 PhD students.
• Constantly engaging with the Central Statistics Office (CSO), Ireland’s national official statistics office through e.g., being the invited external expert on the CSO’s Senior Statistician interview panel, co-supervising Masters in Official Statistics students’ minor research theses with CSO employees, and through relations with CSO as a key enterprise partner.
