Dr. Orla O’Sullivan (Teagasc; Food/Analytics – PI; female, h-index 50) is a Senior Research Officer at Teagasc Food Research Centre at Teagasc, Moorepark, Fermoy, Ireland and an FI with APC SFI Research Centre. She is a computational biologist focusing on elucidating the microbiome from a variety of ecosystems including soil, food, rumen and human gut. Of particular interest to her is how food and food ingredients shape the human gut microbiome both in healthy and diseased cohorts. Recently she has started to investigate the soil microbiome as a reservoir for antibiotic resistance genes and how they enter our food chain. Orla has ~13,500 Google Scholar citations. Orla also has a keen interest in Science communication and sits on the education and outreach committee VistaMilk. In 2018 Orla was listed as a Clarivate Highly cited Researcher and in 2019 was awarded SFI Early Career Researcher of the Year. In May of 2020 Orla was promoted from funded investigator to principal investigator in VistaMilk. Orla is a co-lead of Platform 6 –omics. She is co-supervisor to a postdoctoral researcher in Platform 6 and Spoke 8 digestive characteristics. Orla has been awarded a Walsh Scholar PhD student who will be carrying out research on soil microbiome with NUIG.
